How we handle your information.

Last updated: May 26, 2026

Backshop (“Backshop,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a missed-call text-back service operated as a sole proprietorship based in Newburgh, Indiana. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you sign up for our service, when our service handles calls on behalf of our business clients, and when you visit getbackshop.com.

If you have questions about anything in this policy, contact us at [email protected].

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers three groups of people:

  • Business clients, the local service business owners who sign up for and pay for Backshop.
  • Callers, people who call one of our business clients' phone numbers (whether they reach the business owner directly or get our automated text reply).
  • Website visitors, anyone browsing getbackshop.com.

2. Information we collect

From business clients

When a business signs up for Backshop, we collect:

  • Business name and owner's name
  • Business address, phone number, and email address
  • Owner's personal cell phone number (used for missed-call alerts)
  • Type of business and hours of operation
  • Text-back message preferences
  • Payment information (processed and stored by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)

From callers

When someone calls a business that uses Backshop, our system automatically logs:

  • The caller's phone number
  • The city and state associated with the caller's number (from public caller-ID metadata)
  • The date and time of the call
  • Whether the call was answered, missed, or routed to voicemail
  • The content of any text messages exchanged between the caller and our automated system or the business

From website visitors

Our website may collect standard log data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or behavioral targeting cookies.

3. How we use this information

We use the information we collect only to operate, deliver, and improve our service:

  • To send automated text replies to callers on behalf of our business clients
  • To send real-time alerts to business owners about missed calls
  • To log caller contacts to the business client's contact management system
  • To bill subscriptions and process payments
  • To provide customer support and respond to client inquiries
  • To detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, and security issues
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. SMS messaging and consent

We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers or any other personal information collected through SMS opt-in with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. SMS opt-in information is used solely to operate the Backshop service.

Callers consent to receiving a text reply by voluntarily dialing a business phone number that is forwarded through our service. Business owners consent to receiving missed-call alert messages during signup at getbackshop.com.

Recipients of any message from our service can opt out at any time by replying STOP, or by contacting [email protected]. To get help, reply HELP to any message or contact us at the same email. Message and data rates may apply.

5. Third-party service providers

We rely on a small set of vetted third-party providers to deliver our service. These providers process information on our behalf under their own privacy policies:

  • Stripe, payment processing
  • Twilio, SMS and voice infrastructure
  • HubSpot, contact management
  • Make.com, workflow automation
  • Google Workspace, business email
  • Cloudflare, website hosting and DNS
  • Tally, onboarding form

We do not authorize any of these providers to use the data they process on our behalf for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

6. How long we retain information

We retain business client account information for as long as the account is active, plus a reasonable period after cancellation for accounting, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes. We retain caller logs (phone numbers, timestamps, message content) for as long as the business client's account is active, after which the data is deleted or anonymized at the client's request or within a reasonable period.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to limited legal exceptions)
  • Opt out of any message by replying STOP or contacting us
  • Close your Backshop account at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with your request. We will respond within a reasonable period.

8. Security

We use standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information we collect. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep yours safe. If we ever become aware of a breach involving your information, we will notify you promptly as required by applicable law.

9. Children's privacy

Backshop is a service for business owners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be communicated by email to active business clients.
